Female Pattern Thinning

Female Pattern Thinning (FPT) is on the increase and is now occurring in women at an earlier age with 30% experiencing FPT before they reach the age of 30. Over 50% of women experience FPT after menopause as female sex hormonal levels decrease at menopause or after a hysterectomy.

Female Pattern Thinning is an inherited condition but does not lead to total baldness as it does in men. Often FPT starts in the hair parting and becomes noticeably wider, slowly thinning the hair over the scalp. Treated early, the effects of FPT can be controlled and minimised.

Causes

Solutions

Stress

Woman can often find themselves in stress-filled lives juggling work and home commitments. Stress in any form produces hormones from glands around our body and binds with enzymes to create a chemical messenger known as Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT sends messages to follicle cells in our hair roots telling them to “STOP PRODUCTION”. If this message is continually repeated these hair cells will stop participating in growing hair.

Menopause

Female sex hormonal levels decrease at menopause or after a hysterectomy. The lowered oestrogen levels allow harmful androgen to become more dominant as oestrogen binds testosterone preventing it from entering hair follicle and root cells where it slows or stops cells reproduction.

Birth control pills

In some women thinning hair starts or worsens after taking a particular oral contraceptive. Birth control pills like Dianne 35® have a high oestrogen level, which helps to counter excessive testosterone.

Poor diet

An imbalance of nutrients available to the hair roots from a poor diet or through malabsorption or maldistribution will often lead to high levels of toxins that accumulate at the hair roots, worsening the hair thinning problem.

Solutions

Reduce Stress

Reducing stress in your life will definitely have a positive effect on hair growth. Try to reduce your stress levels by balancing work and home life with moderate exercise and relaxation methods. A 20 minute walk a day or a weekly yoga class can go a long way to helping your hair growth. Monitor your stress levels or ask our Trichologists for help in assisting your body to deal with stress.

Hair Mineral Analysis

Due to a poor diet, high levels of toxins can accumulate at the hair roots and intensify hair thinning. We offer extensive hair analysis tests that provide indicators of nutritional and mineral deficiencies and possible toxicities. The results of a hair mineral analysis are used by our Trichologists to provide a treatment programme designed specifically for you.

Drug Free Treatments

We use natural Dihydrotestosterone blockers that can reduce the rate of hair loss. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a chemical messenger found in our body that sends messages to follicle cells in our hair roots telling them to “STOP PRODUCTION”. If this message is continually repeated these hair cells will stop participating in growing hair. Our natural DHT blockers are drug free and are found in our Kankho range of products. We also recommend taking Anagen Plus capsules that contain the extract of Saw Palmetto, another alternative natural way to decrease DHT in hair roots and assist hair growth. Anagen Plus complements the effectiveness of our Kankho products.

KANKHO STIMULANTS

We recommend natural topical blockers including vitamin B6, zinc and azelaic acid.

Consultation With A Trichologist

If you think you are suffering from Female Pattern Thinning we strongly recommend a consultation with our Trichologists for an expert diagnosis on the causes of your hair loss.
